Meet TIDAL, your premiere high-quality music streaming service owned by Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Beyonce and dozens of other big names in the industry.
In an effort to reenergize the value of music, the owners of the company gathered at a press conference yesterday to unveil TIDAL, which, for $20 per month, will give listeners access to high-fidelity version of the artists’ new—and old—hits (a $10 per month package offers the streaming minus the high-quality audio). Subscription fees will go toward paying both artists and the talent behind the scenes.
“Everyone knows that the pay system is unfair to artists,” Jay Z said to the New York Times. “Everywhere else, everyone gets compensated for their work. Music is everywhere—you consume it every day, everywhere you go. The content creator should be compensated. It’s only fair.”
TIDAL, which is available now, enters the market facing steep competition from Spotify, another music streaming service that offers its users a free option.
