Families of bi-racial children in Washington, D.C., will now be given a new box to check when indicating race and ethnicity. Enrollment forms will now allow students to identify as “two or more races, ” a group that would include both Black and White and whatever other combination their ethnicity represents, according to the Washington Post. However, critics believe racial information can tell school administrators what groups are in need of what service and by creating a new group, we’re actually taking services away from the students of color who need them.  The change is mandatory for all new students.—WLW
