Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade says he’s had many labels and nicknames but “daddy” is by far his favorite. “No label sounds as good to me as Daddy,” he writes in the Huffington Post. “Fatherhood has been a life-changing experience for me. While no one is perfect, I think we all have an idea of what the perfect father would look like. I strive to be a better father every day,” he says. Wade, who is in the middle of a divorce from estranged wife Siohvaughn Wade, was recently granted temporary custody of his sons Zaire and Zion. He says one of the main ways he connects with his sons is through sports. “Because of what I do and how competitive I am, I make a point to never get too hard on my sons about sports. Instead, I try to have fun with them,” he says. The 28-year-old told the Associated Press that despite becoming a free agent July 1st, he’ll spend this summer focused on nothing else but fatherhood. “Being with my kids, biggest thing right now. No question,” Wade said. “I have been out of their everyday lives for the last three years. I understand my parenting ways aren’t as much as someone who’s around them 80 percent of the time. I understand I have things to catch up on. I will get better at it. If I learn one thing, I’ll feel accomplished.” For more of Dwyane Wade’s commentary, click here.
