Do you want to enjoy the finer things in life, but just don’t know how to budget for them? Yahooshine has come up with seven ways for you to “live the good life for less.” Pamper yourself with massages and enjoy fine wine and dining — all on your recessionista budget. Here’s how. “Splurge at the Grocery Store” “Give yourself more wiggle room at the market” Yahooshine suggests. Even if you splurge on a great cut of meat or fillet of fish at the grocery store, it’s still a small fraction of what you’ll pay for the same thing at a restaurant. “Buy Art” Yahooshine recommends visiting 20×200 to purchase prints for under $20 or click through Etsy for fine prints, painting sand photographs. Also, this is where you can let your creative juices flow. Frame whatever you think is cool. It could be “a beautiful textile, sheet of wrapping paper, old sewing pattern envelopes, drawings by children or illustrations from old books.” “Dine at Home” Chances are if you take that fancy fillet of salmon you bought at the market and popped it in the oven, lit some candles, served on some nice dishes with cloth napkins and created your own playlist, your dining room would be transformed into the most romantic or hip restaurant in town. “Buy Wine by the Case” “Most wine stores will offer a discount of 10 to 15 percent when you buy twelve bottles, and many let you buy mixed cases,” Yahooshine says. Be the wine connoisseur in your bunch and stock up by the caseload. It’ll save you some money and you’ll always have something to sip on. “Get Pampered” “There are ways to get a good [massage] on the cheap,” Yahooshine reveals. Check out a local massage school or go to your local Chinatown to get a rub down for less. “Smell the Roses (Or the Mums)” Buying yourself a bouquet of fresh flowers is one of the easiest ways to brighten up your mood and can liven up any drab space. “Try buying several bouquets of the cheapest blooms available, like daisies or spider mums. Visit the farmer’s market late in the day and see if the flower stall will offer you a deal,” Yahooshine suggests. “Perfume for Pennies” A lovely new scent can make you feel like a million bucks and you’d be amazed at how long one of those small vials of perfume can last. Yahooshine recommends trying a sample from The Perfumed Court.
