DMX and George Zimmerman Celebrity Boxing Match Canceled

The highly-criticised celebrity boxing match between George Zimmerman and rapper DMX has been officially canceled.

According to the Huffington Post, the scheduled “celebrity” boxing match between George Zimmerman and DMX has officially been canceled.

Celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman announced the cancelation via Twitter on Saturday and apologized for offending anyone. Feldman tweeted, “The George Zimmerman fight is canceled I’m sorry for anyone I hurt with this but this was a very big opportunity thank you.”

Zimmerman was found not guilty for the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin in 2013. News of the fight broke out on the morning of what would have been Martin’s 19th birthday.

The announcement was followed by heavy criticism, even garnering an official statement by Al Sharpton and an official petition on the White House’s We the People website and Change.org.

Although DMX was quoted as saying that he would “…beat the living f— out of him,” the rapper’s representative said that he never confirmed that he would fight.

In response to the cancellation, DMX’s representative emailed the Huffington Post with a statement saying: ” Damon Feldman has announced that the George Zimmerman fight is canceled via his Twitter. As previously stated, DMX never agreed to the fight and we thank you for all the support from DMX’s fans. This situation will not affect any of DMX’s upcoming concerts in America or around the world.”
