Denzel Washington keeps with the spirit of giving at his alma mata!
You never forget your college days, and this serves as a reminder.
Oscar winner Denzel Washington donated $2.25 million to his alma mata, Fordham University this Monday. A proud 1977 graduate of Fordham’s theater program, the acting mogul aims to endow the school’s first professorship in theater.
Two-million dollars will go towards the Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre, while the other $250,000 will go to establishing a scholarship for minority students studying theater.
Different actors and playwrights will be brought in to rotate each fall and teach at the school’s Lincoln Center theater program, university officials announced on Tuesday.
Tony-Award winning actress Phylicia Rashad, known mostly for her role as Claire Huxtable on the “Cosby Show,” will be the first to teach a class this fall.
