Krush Grove fans rejoice! A Def Jam biopic could be in the works.
According to Deadline, Universal is considering an in-depth look at Def Jam Records and co-founder Russell Simmons following the success of Straight Outta Compton.
Michael B. Jordan and Jonah Hill have been mentioned as possible leads for the roles of Simmons and Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin respectively, although there are no deals currently in place.
The film would be based on Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money, + God, a 2002 film co-written by Simmons and Nelson George that chronicles Simmons’ career, the creation of Def Jam and how hip-hip grew from an underground movement to a prominent voice in culture.
The project is still in the preliminary stages. There is no word yet on when production will begin.
