CurlyNikki's Favorite Products of 2012

The natural hair guru reveals her favorite hair products of the year.

By Nikki Walton of CurlyNikki · December 26, 2012October 28, 2020
01
MopTop Fuzzy Duck Kid’s Detangler and Refresher Spray

“Although I only discovered this jewel in October, I was using the Moptop Herbal Detangler and Refresher much of the year. I detested the fragrance, but loved the way it snapped my second day curls back to life. Unlike other refreshers I’ve used, it leaves no residue and once it dries, your curls feel soft, moisturized and light. When I found they made the same refresher spray for the kiddos with a more pleasant fragrance, I pounced on it, and now my curls smell as great as they look!”

$17.95, available at Moptop Hair

02
Curl Junkie’s Coffee Coco Cream

“This is another one I found late in 2012, and honestly, I’m not sure how I got along without it. It claims to combine the moisturizing properties of a leave-in conditioner with the hold of a light styling gel, and it does just that. After a rather long drying time, my curls are left residue-free, moisturized, shiny and popping with just this one product. It’s a keeper.”

$16.50, available at CurlMart

03
Ouidad’s Mongo Oil Hair Treatment

“This is the best damn commercial oil I’ve ever used. Ever. And that’s saying a lot, because I’ve tried them all. This one product provides heat protection, nourishment and lubrication to prevent mechanical damage. It’s light and non-greasy but is substantial enough to smooth the cuticle. I love everything but the fragrance and the price and use it daily (on dry hair) to keep my strands pliable and lubricated.”

$36, available at Ouidad

04
Aubrey Organic’s GPB Conditioner

“This product adds the perfect balance of protein and moisture. It’s a conditioner that my shower will never be without again. Perfect as a deep treatment or instant conditioner, it always leaves my hair soft and moisturized yet fortified. It has slip too, so it’s a great detangler as well!”

$17.83, available at Aubrey Organics

05
NOW Foods Virgin Coconut Oil

“I use this organic coconut oil as a pre-poo treatment before I wash or co-wash my hair. It’s a necessary step for detangling and it keeps my hair protected during the wash process.”

$13.99. available at drugstore.com
