Cuba Gooding Jr. will depart the Broadway revival of The Trip to Bountiful.
The Academy Award winning actor is gearing up for his final performance on August 27 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre and will be replaced by actor Leon Addison Brown. Gooding Jr. currently plays the role of Ludie Watts, which Brown will take over beginning August 28.
The star is exiting the production to work on an upcoming film project.
Directed by Michael Wilson, The Trip to Bountiful revival also stars Tony winner Cicely Tyson, who plays Carrie Watts and Vanessa Williams as Jessie Mae Watts.
The play has been nominated for four Tony Awards in the past, including Best Revival of a Play, Best Actress in a Play for Cicely Tyson’s performance and Best Featured Actress in a Play for Condola Rashad’s role in it.
The Trip to Bountiful is scheduled to play on Broadway up until October 9.
