Science says that drinking with the one you love is key to helping the relationship stay alive. Yes, really.

A new study from the Journals of Gerontology says that couples who have similar drinking habits are more likely to stay together. With the 2,700+ couples who participated in the poll, researchers found that more joint alcohol consumption prompted a greater feeling of content within the relationship.

The study says that drinking between the two individuals in the relationship should be relatively even as most wives reported that they were overall less likely to drink alcohol than their husbands but they experienced a far greater dissatisfaction within their marriage when they were the only one to drink more often than not.

Now lovers and drinkers have another good reason to share a bottle of wine on their next date night, and we’ll drink to that!
