Wendy Williams is taking her talents to Las Vegas for a series of comedy shows. The talk queen will join an all-female cast including Loni Love, Joy Behar, Lisa Lampanelli and Jennifer Coolidge in a stand-up comedy show at The Venetian hotel. The star shared on her TV show Tuesday that she will be delivering her uncensored jokes for a 70 minute skit starting July 11. [ThatGrapeJuice]
ESSENCE Festival headliner Lionel Richie is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement honor at the BET Awards this year. Richie expressed his excitement stating, “I am extremely honored to receive the BET Lifetime Achievement Award. In Black America, it’s the ‘BET Awards’ where artists receive the highest recognition for their talent from their peers and fans. Michael Jai White and Tyson Beckford are in talks to star in Chocolate City. Described as the African-American take on male-stripper film Magic Mike, the story follows a college student struggling to make ends meet when he is introduced to the owner (White) of a male strip club and decides to give amateur night a try. When the new kid on the block takes the shine from the clubs veteran star [Bedford) things heat up. Chocolate City is set to begin filming in June. [Deadline]
The Voice season finale aired last night and Usher’s contestant, Josh Kaufman, took home the trophy and top honors. “This is a show about dreams, about the journey of being an artist, and he represents all of that,” his coach said during the show. “From the time of the blind auditions to being stolen, he’s been on an amazing journey.” Kaufman has won a recording contract and will head on a 31-date tour this summer with two other finalists and The Voice veteran, Tessanne Chin. Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming animated film Home has been put on hold. The film, featuring comedy star Steve Martin, was originally set for a November 2014 release date but may be pushed back as far as spring 2015, taking a back seat to the latest installment of DreamWorks’ Madagascar franchise.
