Rapper Nas’ Time is Illmatic documentary has landed a global distribution deal. After a successful showing at the Cannes Music Festival, the documentary about what many consider to be one of the most important hip hop albums, was picked up by Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Company. Now the movie will be sold in Japan, Australia and across Europe. Illmatic is set to hit theaters in the U.S. come October. [HipHopWired]
Boondocks executive producer Rodney Barnes has been tapped by Sony to for action-comedy Any Means Necessary, starring Marlon Wayans and Mike Epps. Wayans will play a cop while Epps is set to take on the role as his criminal sibling. Barnes, who wrote Think Like a Man, Think Like a Man 2 and Ride Along will rewrite the script originally penned by David Elliot and Paul Lovett. [Deadline]
