Coffee Talk: Paula Patton Files For Divorce From Robin Thicke

Plus, Aretha Franklin earns 100th hit on R&B/Hip-Hop charts, an In The Heat of The Night remake to come soon, Laverne Cox lights up the Empire State Building, Nicki Minaj talks settling down and Tracee Ellis Ross tries to understand 'Lifestyle' rap lyrics.
Coffee Talk: Paula Patton Files For Divorce From Robin Thicke
By Lauren Turner · Updated October 27, 2020

Here’s what we’re talking about over our almond milkshakes:

After the couple separated back in February, Paula Patton has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Robin Thicke. Even though Thicke tried to win back her love—even titling his latest album after her—his efforts were unsuccessful. Patton will be asking for joint legal and physical custody of their 4-year-old son, Julian. The divorce was filed in L.A., and was said to have been “harmonious” between the couple. [TMZ]

Aretha Franklin recently became the first female artist to have 100 titles on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, when “Rolling in the Deep (The Aretha Version)” made it on the list at No. 47. The Queen of Soul is the fourth overall artist to earn this milestone, sitting right behind Lil Wayne (135), Jay Z (127) and James Brown (111). Congrats, Aretha! [Billboard]

Showtime is working on a remake of the 1967 Oscar-winning film, In the Heat of the Night. Written, directed and executive produced by Tate Taylor from The Help and Get On Up, the remake will be set in modern-day Mississippi. Neither the cast list nor the release date has been announced yet. [HollywoodReporter]

On October 16, Laverne Cox will be lighting the Empire State Building purple, in honor of Spirit Day and National Bullying Prevention Month. Cox has teamed up with GLAAD, Parent Advocacy Coalition For Educational Rights (PACER) and castmembers from her upcoming documentary, Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word, to bring Spirit Day to New York. Even with all of the recent success Nicki Minaj has earned, she still wants something new: A traditional family. The 31-year-old opened up about how she wants to “take a hiatus and dedicate myself completely to my child.” “Family has always been very important to me, and that is why I want to wait until the right moment before starting my own,” said Minaj. “Right now I am too busy, but at a certain point the situation will change.” [EOnline]

Tracee Ellis Ross has been trying to better understand the rap game for a while now. She turned her attention to Yung Thug’s hit, “Lifestyle,” but we’re sorry to say that she failed, miserably. Ross posted a video of herself trying to rap with Yung Thug, on Instagram.
