Pope Francis has some soul coming his way. It was just announced that Aretha Franklin has joined the line-up of artists to perform for the Pope during his forthcoming U.S. visit. The singer will take the stage with international superstars during the Sept. 26 event in Philadelphia. [USA TODAY]

Surgeon who Operated on Kanye West’s Mom Speaks Out

Almost eight years after the death of Kanye West’s mom, Donda West, the doctor who performed cosmetic surgery on her the day before she passed is speaking out and hoping to clear his name. Dr. Jan Adams claims that Donda had declined follow-up care within the facility, insisting that her nephew, who was a nurse, would care for her at home. Reportedly, while she was at home, she was given 20 Vicodin in as many hours and left alone, ultimately leading to her fatal choking. “This lady shouldn’t be dead,” Dr. Adams said on Inside Edition. “All [the nurse] had to do was sit her up.” [Yahoo]

Zoe Saldana Lands New Role in Graphic Novel Adaptation

Zoe Saldana is back to do what she does best: slaying the box office. The Guardians of the Galaxy star has just signed on to star in the graphic novel adaptation of I Kill Giants. She will step into the shoes of a psychiatrist tasked with helping a young patient who uses her fantasy world to escape her harsh reality. Filming is scheduled to begin next year. [A.V. Club]

Tamera Mowry-Housley Brings Baby Ariah to ‘The View’

Welcome to Hollywood, Ariah! Tamera Mowry-Housley brought her two-month-old bundle of joy, Ariah, to The Real in the baby’s very first television debut. During the segment, Tamera gushed about the well-tempered baby, calling Ariah the “love of her life.” “She has the calmest spirit,” Tamera said. “I swear, you guys. She’s like such an old soul. A handful of celebs are being rightfully recognized for their hearts of gold. John Legend, Wanda Sykes and Tyrese Gibson are among the honored at next month’s Triumph Awards, which are scheduled to air Oct. 3. Legend received the Presidential Award for service and humanitarianism, Skyes took home the Activist in the Arts Awards, and Gibson walked away with the Entertainer of the Year Award.
