Those hoping to see comedian Chris Rock relinquish his Academy Award hosting post should know that the comedian and actor isn’t backing down.

In fact, according to producer Reginald Hudlin, Rock is rewriting his opening monologue for the upcoming ceremony. Hudlin told Entertainment Tonight that Rock and his writing staff have “locked themselves in a room” and are busy at work “writing a new show.”

“You should expect [#OscarsSoWhite jokes],” Hudlin shared. “And, yes, the Academy is ready for him to do that. They’re excited about him doing that. They know that’s what we need. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want.”

Not shying away from the controversy, Hudlin says Rock’s new approach will make watching the show worthwhile.

“He’s that brilliant, and I have 1000 percent confidence that he will deliver something that people will be talking about for weeks.”
