Despite recent reports of a ceasefire agreement from the Nigerian government, Boko Haram denys a deal was ever made and claims that all of the abducted schoolgirls have been married off and converted to Islam.
Just two weeks ago the families of the more than 200 missing girls, who were abducted in April from their secondary boarding school in Chibok, northeast Nigeria, received news from Nigerian officials that a ceasefire agreement was in place with the Islamist terror group. They were also told arrangements were being made to free the girls soon.
Now a man claiming to be Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau insists that no such deal was made and the girls are never coming home because they have been “married off” to its fighters.
“We have have married them off and they are all in their husbands’ houses,” the man claiming to be Shekau said in a video released today, reports CNN.
“The over 200 Chibok girls have converted to Islam, which they confess is the best religion. Either their parents accept this and convert too or they can die.”
The majority of the kidnapped girls were Christians.
According to recent reports, Boko Haram fighters have not shown any signs of respecting a ceasefire agreement and have continued deadly attacks on villages while killing and abducting an unknown number of people in northeast Nigeria.
