The recently-released The Ballerina’s Little Black Handbook is the first from the inspiring Brown Girls Do Ballet organization. An excellent resource for young dancers, the organization’s mission is to “promote diversity in the arts by providing annual scholarships, a mentor network, and community programs to empower young girls.”

The book itself is a compilation of experiences, advice and essential training tips for both aspiring and practicing young female dancers of color from women who are currently defying the odds in the world of dance. Immensely talented dancer Misty Copeland is one of many to lend her knowledge and expertise to be featured among the collective of valuable advice found in the book.

A short promo video for the publication was released in early April and features a variety of dancers of color from across the country, with adorable narration by a young aspiring dancer speaking on the importance of seeing girls and women who look like her in the dance field.
