Today marks the 25th anniversary of the death of R&B legend Marvin Gaye. One of the smoothest crooners to ever hit Motown, Marvin Gaye brought a sense of psychedelic soul to music that has since been matchless and unparalleled. Even though we can’t overlook his ability to make the baddest baby making songs known to man, there’s much more to the singer than hit singles like “Let’s Get it On” and “Sexual Healing.” Through song, he brought awareness to social issues like racism and police brutality, giving new depth to his music and music as a broad-spectrum. Gaye’s forty-four short years on this Earth brought us a world of timeless lyrics and silky melodies that undoubtedly still bring us delight and pure happiness. —PS
