Terrence and Tiffany Low met during their last semester at Howard University. Even though they were both from Chicago and had mutual friends, the two of them never crossed paths until right before graduation.
“I was not an easy person to date when we first started off,” Tiffany admits. “I made Terrence really work for my attention and time. His persistence never wavered.” Eventually, she became convinced that he was the one by his sweet gestures and the fact that he always kept his word. In November 2017, he sealed the deal by proposing in a pretty grand and artistic way. “So many friends and family flew in from all around the country and he organized it all by himself,” Mrs. Low says. “I was filled with so much emotion, and cried happy tears all night.”
Their wedding, held at an opera theater in Chicago, was just as grand. The color scheme of black and gold married perfectly with the classic red carpets and gold fixtures of the venue. Thanks to La Toya Keys of Elle Kay Events, the Lows’ wedding day went off without a hitch. Tiffany says, “I am happy that I hired a planner and would absolutely recommend having one for all brides.”

Terrence, a party promoter, invited Tiffany to an “event” that he said was for a local artist. It was actually the day he planned to ask for her hand in marriage. “When I arrived it was just him at the venue with a ton of pictures of us on the wall from over the years and a huge painting of us hanging in the gallery,” she says. “He then got on one knee and asked me to be his forever. How could I not say yes to that!?”
Backstage With The Girls
Tiffany and her bridesmaids enjoy some laughs before getting dressed.
Hair She Is
Tiffany’s hairstylist Jahlani McKinny added some drama to her luscious curls with this exquisite diamond hair clip.
Walking In Style
The bride’s Badgley Mischka shoes had so much pizazz.
Tiffany didn’t quite know what she wanted in a dress, but knew she’d found the one immediately after trying it on. “When “I put on the Enzoani dress with the never ending lace train, I knew that this was the dress that would command the eyes of every guest in the room and that my husband would love it,” she says.
The groom gushes about the connection with his wife to ESSENCE. “We could enjoy each other in all forms and in all places – in the living room with takeout or on the coast of Italy drinking wine,” he says. “This, us, is transcendent and timeless.”
“My mother helped me get dressed and calmed my nerves ahead of the wedding,” Tiffany tells ESSENCE. “Terrence’s dad did the same for him in his dressing room with his groomsmen.”
The couple exchanged vows in front of 187 guests. “We performed a unity sand ceremony to showcase that ‘just like the sand, we can never be separated.’”

Love Takes Center Stage
“My husband and I didn’t want to have a traditional wedding in a church or a ballroom,” Tiffany says. “We really wanted our wedding venue to be grand and beautiful but also have an amazing party at the reception. That’s why we chose two venues.”
“Tiffany is one of the purest souls I’ve ever met,” Terrence tells ESSENCE. “She genuinely tries to do the right thing in all situations.”
Our Chariot Awaits
The Lows rode to their wedding reception venue in style.
Surrounded By Love
“I’ll never forget how my groomsmen and best men had my back the entire day,” Terrence tells ESSENCE.
The couple’s color scheme of black and gold carried through to the bridal party’s attire. Thanks to Rent The Runway and The Black Tux, everyone got their exquisite looks for a bargain!
An Impressive Spread
Every part of this wedding had a wow factor, including the table decor. “The element that our guests most enjoyed, were the long family-style tables that encouraged interaction and fun!,” Tiffany says. “When the curtains opened to reveal the room our guests all stood there in awe.”
A Grand Entrance
The Lows says their favorite part of the wedding was their magic-style reception entrance. “We entered the space through an oversized metal door that doubled as part of the backdrop to our sweetheart table. Guests were not expecting it!”
What a beautiful couple!!
Flavors For All
The couple’s simple and elegant cake had an unassuming twist. “Our cake had three different fillings to please all preferences – vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.”
Tiffany’s Advice To Brides
“While your wedding day is important, don’t forget that the most important thing is the day and years after the wedding. The details will fall into the place, so put your energy into your soon-to-be life partner.”
“We had a lot of fun with wedding hashtag #OnAHighWithTheLows,” the couple said. “It was a fun play on the 4/20 date of our wedding and our last name.”
A few months after the wedding, the lovebirds jetted off to Turks and Caicos for a romantic honeymoon.
