A Sign From God
Bisi moved to the Chicago area in the summer of 2009. She was excited to explore a new city and meet new people so she immediately joined a Facebook group for young professionals in the area. Unbeknownst to her at the time, her future husband Wale was visiting his uncle in New Jersey during that time and out of sheer boredom he had also set up a Facebook account and joined the same group. He spotted Bisi first and her beauty immediately caught his eye. Wale knows now that seeing her post in the group message feed was a sign from God. He sent Bisi a friend request, but she was initially hesitant to accept it. When she saw that they had mutual friends in common, Bisi decided to complete the connection.
They flirted back and forth for a little while and soon made plans for a date. (And what a first date it was—they met for dinner, went to an art museum, took a boat ride on Navy Pier and ended the day with a long romantic walk along Lakeshore Drive beneath the stars.) “I came home and told my roommate that I’d just been on a date with my future husband,” Bisi recalls. Her instincts were spot on. Wale was the guy for her and their relationship continued to blossom.
An Afternoon To Remember
Although things between them were going very well in Chicago, Bisi had to relocate to Atlanta for an amazing job opportunity. Wale was coming to town for his first visit and she planned to take him to a friend’s barbecue at the city’s scenic Piedmont Park. When he called to tell her that he missed his flight, she was admittedly a little disappointed, but she decided to go to the barbecue anyway and just wait to see him later that day.
When Bisi arrived at the park she was having a really tough time locating the event and her friend had stopped answering her phone. Just as she began to feel frustrated, someone tapped her on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me miss. Do I know you from somewhere?” It was one of her childhood friends from Ohio grinning from ear to ear. She looked around and to her surprise, all of her childhood friends were suddenly surrounding her, and none of them lived in or near Atlanta. Each one had flown into town just to witness what was about to happen next.
Bisi’s friends escorted her over to another area in the park where Wale was waiting patiently with a romantic picnic for two all set up. “He said so many beautiful things as he proposed, but I can’t remember them all because I was truly in shock,” she recalls. “I just kept saying, ‘Oh my goodness’ and ‘Is this really happening?’” The moment was surreal and although she had a hunch a proposal was coming soon, she hadn’t a clue that it would be so heartfelt and a total surprise. Wale had outdone himself.
A year and a half later they tied the knot in style at one of Atlanta’s most unique venues. See their romantic wedding style and share their love!
