Silver Springs, Maryland couple Astrid and Fred first realized they were compatible on online dating site Match.com.
After falling head over heels in the real world, the two headed to Cancun, Mexico for a contemporary, chic wedding.
Astrid found her Essence of Australia wedding gown at Distinctive Designs in Rockville, MD. She added some accents to the dress like a corseted back and gems in the front.
Astrid and Fred actually tied the knot a few weeks before their wedding at the justice of peace. Because they had already said “I do,” Astrid’s college friend Jen was able to marry the two of them on their big day.
Not ones for PDAs, Astrid and Fred kept their kiss short and sweet on their wedding day.
The couple had a small wedding party with her cousin as her maid of honor and the groom’s best friend as the best man.
The couple got hitched at the beautiful beachfront hotel La Amada Hotel on Cancun’s Playa Mujeres.
Astrid likes that Fred is “a strong man.”
“He’s a tough guy, but at the end of the day, he’s a softie, even though he doesn’t want anyone to know he’s a softie.” she says.
“He’s serious about protecting the people that he loves,” Astrid continues, “And those are qualities that I find important.”
“A kiss on the cheek from Fred always gets me,” Astrid says. “He always uses that to get his way.”
“Fred is funny,” the new wife chuckles. “He’s always making jokes out of everything, whether or not it’s supposed to be funny.”
“She’s a good listener,” Fred says of Astrid. “Being a cop I need someone to talk to and she’s very easy to talk to. That’s what made me fall in love with her.”
Astrid loves that Fred is ambitious. “He finds the balance to make time for everything he wants to do,” she says.
“For me being married was a formality,” Fred says. “I felt like I’ve been married to Astrid since the day I said I loved her. We just made it official.”
Planner 1 Events in Cancun, Mexico created all the floral decorations for Astrid and Fred’s big day, incorporating their wedding colors fuchsia and navy blue.
The newlyweds hung photos from their engagement photo shoot on their chairs to remind them of every step of their love.
The couple’s poolside wedding reception caught the beautiful blues, pinks and purples of the Mexico sunset.
Astrid and Fred couldn’t stop smiling at each other as they danced to “Decision” by Busta Rhymes for their first spin on the dance floor as husband and wife.
“My favorite memory from our wedding was our dance-off,” Astrid giggles. “Fred can’t dance, but he challenged me to a dance-off. I won, he will tell you he won the dance off, but everyone knows it was me.”
La Amada Hotel created Astrid and Fred’s delicious wedding cake. The bottom layer was vanilla flavored with a strawberry filling and the top was cheesecake.
Astrid and Fred’s cake is a symbol for how they intend to live the rest of their days together — with love and sweetness.
“I’m looking forward to when I can stop working and retire and spend my whole day with Astrid,” Fred says. “I’m looking forward to a time when there’s no distractions — just me and her.”
"I"m looking forward to being able to travel together and see things together," Astrid says. “And to getting another puppy.” The newlyweds have a dog named Henry.
