Brooklyn, New York couple Prezzie and Ty originally wanted to tie the knot on their home turf, but settled on the spacious and more suburban city of Long Island to get more bang for their buck.
With the help of her superstar wedding planner Janelle Morris from Kaylabelle Events, Prezzie was able to scale the growing guest list and floral costs to her budget and pull off the wedding day of her Pinterest dreams.
Prezzie and Ty looked so in love on this day, and they absolutely tore the roof off that reception. If only we could be a fly on the wall!

How They Met
“I was in junior high school and my friend, his sister introduced us. I instantly had a crush on him and he paid me no attention Fast forward 11 years later, his sister invited us out to go hang out in DUMBO. Once I realized Ty was there, my inner giddy junior high school girl returned. I whispered in his sister’s ear that I was interested in him and she screamed to him ‘do you think she is cute and do you want her number?’ His reply” ‘yes and yes.’ The rest is history.”
All I Need Is You
“I knew she was the one when I couldn’t picture a day without her heart,” Ty tells ESSENCE.
“It was an intimate and simple proposal. I was in our bedroom getting ready to go to my pharmacy rotation. I turned around and he was on one knee. I cried, overwhelmed with emotion. We were talking about it for a long time but I did not know that he was going to propose then.”
Timing Is Everything
“I never thought I would find true love, let alone how and when I did. At the time, I was not looking for love but it found me.”
At Ease and In Love
It felt surreal to be a bride. Honestly, it was not nerve-racking the day of and I was calm, except for one random crying episode while getting my makeup done. I had a great team who took on all the stress for me. I wasn’t nervous about getting married because my heart was at ease with who I was marrying, I had no doubts.”
“She loves hard and she is so giving to others,” Ty says when asked what he loves most about Prezzie. “She always wants to help no matter how much she already has on her plate. I admire her drive in life.”
The Bell Of The Ball
“I went to a Kleinfeld’s sample sale and had to find a dress in less than an hour. This wasn’t a challenge for me, because I am not one to take my time in a store. I didn’t know what I envisioned myself in, but I knew I didn’t want a ballroom dress and I wanted lace and beading with a hint of Princess Diana. I found my dress, designed by Ysa Makino and liked it but I felt like something was missing and indeed something was. After making my purchase, I searched the model number online and discovered my dress came with an amazing overskirt that I had to have.”
The woman of his dreams will soon be his wife.
A Venue The Bride Couldn’t Refuse
“From the time I walked in Chateau Briand, I knew I would be getting married there. Everything was brand new and modern and had a menu selection with plenty of variety. I knew this was THE place.”

A Little Help From Beyoncé
“I walked down to ‘Ave Maria’ by Beyoncé, sung by my high school classmate. I wanted somewhat of a traditional Roman Catholic element with Queen Bey mixed in!”
Down The Aisle
Prezzie was walked down the aisle by her mother, who also helped light the unity candle.
Tears of Joy
Both the bride and groom got emotional during the ceremony. True love was definitely in the air!
I Now Pronounce You…
So in love!
We Love The Kids
“Both my mother and mother-in-love kept a good eye on my son who is a ball of energy which lifted a huge weight off of my shoulder,” says Prezzie.
Party of Fine
Prezzie and Ty went for a sleek, romantic look for the groomsmen and blush tones for the bridesmaids. The verdict? Blessed and highly melaninated!
I’ll Drink To That
Instead of booking a limo, Prezzie and Ty made reserved their reception at the hotel next door to the venue. Good call. Who wants to wait to get the party started?
Come Hang With Us
“While looking for venues, I came across a photo of a woman hanging up-side-down serving champagne at a wedding. I had never seen anything like this before and knew I needed this!”
The Color Palette
“Long before I got engaged, like most women, I started planning my wedding on Pinterest. I fell in love with a table setting that included navy, blush and gold. I loved how these colors were feminine, masculine and romantic at the same time.”
Wave Ya Flag
Prezzie paid homage to her Haitian heritage pretty heavy that night. “I had a traditional Haitian dish, diri avec djon djon (black rice) served during cocktail hour, home-cooked by my maid of honor’s mom.”
Get Up, Get Down
Not going to lie, I would totally want to crash this reception. The Darios know how to party!
Don’t Hurt ‘Em!
The dancefloor got a lot of action!
“Our coordinator, Janelle Morris from Kaylabelle Events, coordinated my wedding and suggested we get a plainly decorated cake so that she could dress it up herself with flowers. It came out amazing!”
Light My Fire
Love is a flame that never dies.
Prezzie’s Advice To Future Brides
“Enjoy your day. You’re the one who did the planning, endured the stress and put in the work into the relationship to create this day. No matter what goes wrong that day, nothing else matters but you and your spouse.”
