Her Leading Man: Ronald Williams II, 29, Law Student
The Big Day: 9/13/14
Where and how did you meet your man?
I first met Ron back in 2005 when we were both undergraduate students. My friends and I attended a party in Atlanta and Ron was there for a convention. We met, hit it off, but then went our separate ways. He was living in North Carolina and I lived in Georgia at the time. Fast forward to 2010. I got a job in Greensboro and I happened to run into him one night in North Carolina. The rest is history. Guess you could say it was divine intervention.
Were you looking for love at the time?
Not at all. I hadcjust gotten out of a relationship and moved to an entirely new city. I wanted to take it slow, enjoy my new job and continue to adjust. A friend of mine told me to give it a chance and live a little.
What was your first impression of him?
In 2005, my first impression of him was that he was really cute, fun, and extremely charismatic. In 2010, my first impression was more like, oh my goodness, I never thought I would see him again!
Did you play hard to get?
I don’t think I played hard to get. When I ran in to Ron again, I acted like I didn’t remember him, which he thought was cute. Connecting was easy and effortless; we both did not have to try hard and we had so much in common. He courted me appropriately, which I loved.
What do you two do together for fun on weekends?
We love to explore downtown Raleigh when the weather is nice. Whether it’s going to a museum, listening to live music, attending a street festival, taking a walking tour or trying a new restaurant, we like to experience the happenings around us.
Best vacation you ever took together?
On Ron’s 28th birthday I planned a surprise trip to Wilmington for him. That weekend we were able to go to the beach and have a romantic dinner at a restaurant on the river. Afterwards we explored downtown.
What’s the sweetest thing he’s ever done for you?
To say this man would anything for me is a complete understatement. Most recently, it snowed really hard here and I was trying to get home. Ron was already at my apartment, with groceries in tow, because we were about to get snowed in for a couple of days. My car was getting stuck in the snow and I was getting extremely nervous to continue driving. He asked me where I was and just took off walking and I was nowhere near my apartment. He found me and drove my car the rest of the way home.
How did he pop the question?
He and one of my best friends got together to plan the proposal. It was my friend’s birthday weekend and she told me she wanted me to come to Greensboro to celebrate. I thought we were going to visit a friend of ours but she actually took me to the place where my fiancé and I were reacquainted back in 2010. I saw him standing out there with a small group of our friends. I knew what was happening then and I cried. He had his friend sing to me as well, which was really special. Afterwards we ate at the restaurant where we had our first date.
