When grad student and media specialist Kendra, 26, first met loan closer Paul, 26, love was the furtherest thing from her mind. Little did she know, God had a different plan in store for her. They were out with a group of friends so they didn’t talk much at all. She doesn’t even remember meeting him that night, but he says he saw her around the city a few times after that, each time thinking he had to make his move. He finally did at a friend’s party and you know how the rest of the story goes.
DePaul says he wasn’t the least bit nervous about proposing to Kendra. “It was well overdue,” he says. “What I’m most looking forward to about marriage is spending the rest of my life with her.”
“Paul is very family oriented,” says Kendra. “I’m looking forward to starting our own family. I’m anxious to see what blessings God has in store for us as a married couple.”
“I love that Kendra is goal-oriented and has a passion for everything she does, whether it’s school, her career or her passion for me,” DePaul admits.
“I can’t wait to see what type of father Paul will be to our children,” says Kendra, who’s confident that they only have more blessings to come.
Kendra is ready to commit 100 percent to her new life with DePaul, and she’s looking forward to celebrating every step by his side. “When we’re finally husband and wife, I can’t wait to buy a house and host annual holiday dinners,” she says.
Adorable couple Kendra and DePaul share a loving stare for this sweet portrait.
Kendra describes DePaul as a man who is good-looking, confident and funny — all great traits for someone you plan to spend forever with.
“I think Paul chose me to be his wife because I listen, we laugh together and I want the best for him,” says Kendra. “I’m forgiving and I’m a little bossy (deep down, I think he likes that about me!). And on top of all that, we’re best friends.”
“Paul balances me,” says Kendra. “I’m often high energy and assertive. He’s calm, cool and laid back. This man makes me laugh.”
“He got me the exact ring I wanted,” says Kendra. “We’d gone ring shopping a few times prior to the proposal.”
“He knows me, and he knows the way I think,” Kendra shares. “I have never shared this much of myself with anyone. I’ve been known to have a little of an attitude. Once I realized Paul could handle it, I knew he could handle any other flaw I have.”
“My mom gives Paul points for being daring enough to handle my attitude, moods and emotions,” says Kendra. “And my dad thinks he’s a nice guy.”
This spring, Kendra and DePaul plan to make it official during a modern “lovebirds” themed wedding with lots of purple, navy and lime décor. They haven’t picked a honeymoon location just yet, but they’re hoping for some fun in the sun. Leave your well wishes for them below! Want to see your engagement photos featured on ESSENCE.com?
