Her Leading Man: Christopher Simon, 29, Mental Health Provider
The Big Day: August 4, 2012
The Location: Baltimore
Where did you meet your man?
We met at a cookout in June of 2009 at our mutual friend’s house. It’s kind of a funny story because Chris was there to meet someone else but once he saw me his plans changed.
Did you play hard to get?
No, I never had a chance too. Once we engaged in the initial conversation, things just seemed so perfect that it was hard for me to play hard to get. He called me immediately after we left the cookout. (So much for the 48 hour rule – ha!) We talked for hours that night and have not stopped since.
What’s the sweetest thing he’s ever done for you?
One year on my birthday, he surprised me with a private chef who came to cook at his home. That was also the day that he gave me a key to his house.
Best gift he ever got you?
My engagement ring!
What do your friends say about him?
They all think he is romantic and hilarious. Chris is a really big jokester so they get to see that side of him often.
How did he pop the question?
For months leading up to the engagement, Christopher and I had taken several trips to NYC. We love the big city and had a weekend ritual for each time that we went. This particular Saturday — January 14th to be exact — nothing seemed out of the ordinary. We headed up to NYC at the crack of dawn. Once we arrived, we checked into our hotel and began our usual New York City routine. After lunch, Chris surprised me with a helicopter ride around the city. We had talked about doing this before so I still was not onto his plan. Afterwards, we visited a few museums and then decided to head back to the hotel to change our clothes for dinner. I noticed that Chris seemed a little on edge. I just brushed it off and thought maybe he got an email about work. When I opened the room door I was shocked to see that there were rose petals and candles lit all over the room. I turned around to look at Chris, and he was on his knee. There was a photographer in the back of the room taking pictures of the proposal. To my surprise, the photographer had also followed us around all day throughout our destinations. He had captured my happy day in a thousand pictures. An hour later as I started to realize that everything was “real,” Chris informed me that we had “dinner reservations” in a few minutes so I rushed to dressed. We hurried out of the room and into the elevator. When I got off of the elevator to my surprise I saw my friends and family standing in the lounge of the hotel. They all came up from Baltimore to give me the best engagement party ever.
What were you really thinking as it happened?
I was thinking this couldn’t be real! I had been expecting it for months but it never happened, and after several let downs he finally caught me off guard.
