How did you meet your man?
We met at a party in Washington D.C. I noticed my future husband looking at me and decided to strike up a conversation. It turned out to be a life-changing one.
What was your first impression of him?
I was immediately impressed by his ambition and drive. At the time, he was running his own company and very passionate about his work. I could tell he enjoyed living life to the fullest and shooting for big goals.
Did you play hard to get?
Yes, Marcellus handed me a business card and I initially refused to take it. I had a silly rule about not taking business cards at social gatherings. Marcellus and I then got into a debate about whether or not I should take his business card. Eventually I did, and the rest is history.
Describe your most romantic date ever.
I am a huge Philly sports fan! When we were living in Baltimore, Marcellus surprised me with Phillies tickets. We drove up to Philly and spent the day at the ballpark watching baseball and trying all the ballpark food. Although the Phillies didn’t win that day, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.
Did you know she was ‘The One’ right away?
Not at first…because she wouldn’t accept my business card. But once she finally did, it didn’t take me long to realize she was ‘The One.’
Did you have a hunch he was going to propose?
I was suspicious but Marcellus was playing it very cool. I also made the mistake of telling him I would know when he was going to propose. I later learned that I made him even more determined to surprise me.
How did he pop the question?
It happened on the other side of the world in Cape Town, South Africa. We were on the first day of our vacation and our first stop was Table Mountain. As we stood on top of the mountain watching the sunset, I asked two teenagers to take our photo. I handed them our camera and when I turned around Marcellus was pulling out a ring. He asked me to marry him. I said “yes!” Now we have a photo of that moment to cherish forever.
Were you nervous Marcellus?
I was nervous as I tried to get the ring through airport security. Other than that, I was filled with excitement and joy to be on the trip with my best friend.
What are you most looking forward to about marriage?
Becoming an official unit and supporting each other on whatever dreams we have.
