How did you meet your man?
We met during freshman Orientation at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in the summer of 2005. According to Jamal, he noticed me in some of the classes during orientation. Then he saw me walking on “the set” one evening and decided to approach me. We exchanged numbers and kept in close contact that summer before pharmacy school began.
Were you looking for love at the time?
When I met Jamal, I had recently graduated from high school. I was very excited about moving away from home to start college. So I was definitely not looking for love or a serious relationship. I am truly glad that we eventually grew to this level.
Most romantic date ever?
We went to a rooftop bar in Tallahassee, Floida late one summer night a couple of years ago. We had an honest open dialogue about the good times and trials of our relationship. We spent hours laughing and reminding ourselves of the reasons why we loved each other. I think that’s the night that we both realized that we would definitely become husband and wife.
At what moment did you know he was “The One” for you?
I have always been very independent and career oriented. I never thought I would reorganize my career path for a man! But I knew Jamal was the one when I realized that I hated being apart so much that I did not mind leaving a job that was comfortable and promising to build a life with him.
How did he pop the question?
We went on a little getaway to Atlanta. I just thought we were going to spend another nice weekend out of town. I even made an itinerary for the trip. I was still trying to figure out a location for our Saturday night dinner, while little did I know a surprise awaited me. Jamal had secretly contacted the Jazz club and asked the management of the band would play our song during a proposal. When he got on stage and started singing I still thought he was just “being himself” and being silly. But, when he changed the words of the song and put his hands in his pockets, I knew then that he had something else on his mind.
