How did you meet your man?
Antoine and I met in 2011 at a Sushi restaurant in Dallas, TX. We were both there with friends, and he came over and started a conversation with me. I gave him my phone number and we met for lunch a couple weeks later.
Were you looking for love at the time?
I was expecting love, and I trusted that God was going to allow my husband find me at any moment.
What was your first impression of him?
I felt Antoine was very confident, good looking and had the ability to make me laugh.
Did you play hard to get?
Antoine took close to a week to call me after we first met. So I took even longer to return his initial phone calls. But, after we actually had our first real conversation I felt so comfortable with him that I was pretty much an open book with my feelings.
Describe your most romantic date ever?
We took a road trip from Dallas to New Orleans. The entire car ride we talked about our plans for the future, told stories about our families, sang along with the radio and really got to know each other better. It was really special sharing that time together.
What’s the sweetest thing he’s ever done for you?
I hate going to the dentist. I was there to have some work done, and after I got the numbing shots, I got really overwhelmed and scared. I called Antoine, who was working, and he immediately came to the dentist’s office. He sat in the room with me until I was done. His presence made all the difference and just knowing he was there made me feel better. He now goes to all my dental appointments with me.
How long did you date before you got engaged?
One year and eight months.
Best gift he ever got you?
Antoine is an excellent gift giver; he really listens and always picks something that I am super excited about. If I have to choose, I would say his first gift to me was the best. It was a watch and the card that came with it expressed how much he enjoyed the time we’d shared so far and how he was looking forward to the seconds, minutes, hours and days to come with me.
How did he pop the question?
We were in my hometown visiting my family for the Christmas holiday and a lot of my family and friends were together at my parent’s house. Antoine asked everyone to come into the living room and he started telling everyone there how thankful he was for having me in his life. That’s when he got on one knee and asked me to marry him.
What was really going through your mind as he proposed?
Oh my goodness it’s happening now?!
Fill in the Blank: When we’re (finally!) husband and wife, I can’t wait to __________.
Make some babies!
Who would you cast to play your future hubby in a movie?
Idris Elba, he portrays characters with confident and strong demeanors that still have a vulnerable side to them.
