Getting your Trinity Audio player ready…

The weather outside may be getting frightful, but inside things are starting to heat up. The holiday season may bring on chilly weather, but it also gives us an excuse to stay in and cozy up with tasty cocktails that will keep us warm all night long.

Now typically we’re used to our wines being chilled or served at room temperature, but we’re not about being basic, so we decided to shake things up a bit. Instead of pouring the normal drink for yourself and bae this weekend, why not opt for a nice, warm mulled wine instead? Never heard of it? No worries, it’s simply wine that has been spiced, sweetened, and served warm, with a shot of hard liquor for the culture.

Mulled wine is super easy to make, and the best part, we found a recipe that you can make right in your instant pot or slow cooker. This way you can spend more time sipping and cuddling, and less time over a hot stove. Trust us, one taste of this and you’ll never drink regular wine again…well maybe. Cheers!

Slow Cooker Mulled Wine
INGREDIENTS:
2 (750-milliliter) bottles red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon
1/2 cup brandy
1/2 cup maple syrup
4 whole cloves
2 whole star anise pods
2 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
Peel of 1/2 orange, white pith removed
Optional garnishes: cinnamon sticks, star anise pods, orange peel or slices, cranberries
3- to 4-quart slow cooker

INSTRUCTIONS:
Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker. Stir the wine, brandy, maple syrup, cloves, star anise pods, cinnamon sticks, and orange peel together in a 3- to 4-quart slow cooker. Heat on LOW for 1 hour. Cover and heat on the LOW setting until hot, about 1 hour. Lower the heat to warm, ladle into mugs, and garnish. Reduce heat to warm for serving. Ladle into mugs or heatproof glasses and garnish as desired. via thekitchn
