The music industry continues to mourn Joni Sledge, who passed away in her Phoenix, AZ home on March 10.
As a member of the sibling quartet Sister Sledge, Joni and her sisters (Kim, Kathy, Debbie) became pioneers of not only disco music, but the looks we’ve come to associate with that era. The late 70s and early 80s were a notable time in Black hair history, as celebrities and everyday women alike appeared to embrace all facets of our texture.
Be it bone straight, braided, picked out into a fro or otherwise, there was no one way to slay the hair game and the Sledge Sisters truly did it all.
