So it’s been a couple months since your last relaxer and your new growth is in full effect. It’s time for a touch up! Getting a fresh relaxer is typically an exciting time; however, for some, it can bring about anxiety if you are not well prepared. A few tips and tricks can bring you the best relaxer for the least amount of money – without the stress! Here are a few tips that have worked wonders for my relaxed tresses.
Tip 1: Start with the coarsest area first to allow enough processing time! Remember to relax a different section each time you relax to avoid thinning out that particular area.
Tip 2: Deep condition with a protein treatment at least one week before relaxing and one week after relaxing. Protein will fortify your hair to withstand the relaxer, preventing breakage and brittleness.

Tip 3: Leave the relaxer on for the recommended time on the relaxer to prevent over-processing. Use a generous amount of relaxer on each section. Don’t forget to smooth thoroughly with your fingers to ensure your roots get straight.
Tip 4: After thoroughly rinsing out your relaxer, neutralize at least three times to make sure the relaxer is completely removed. Neutralizing stops the relaxer from processing further.
