Super Natural: Afrobella Pens A Letter to Guys: Bald is Natural Too

Naturalistas have courage and chutzpah required to go natural and so should you!

01
Accept It

There are all kinds of expensive treatments that claim to cure baldness. For the most part they’re a money pit and won’t have the kind of results that will look convincing over time.

You Have Choices

Either use an electric razor to go really low with it, or go for a real razor and just shave it all off. Both looks are fine, but the sooner you accept that baldness is part of your future, the sooner you start shaving your head, and the more people accept and get used to you as a handsome bald gentleman.

Keep Your Head Moisturized

The same products you can use on your face, you can use on the top of your head to stave off flakes and to protect you from sun damage. Guys, you should be rocking at least SPF 15 every day, and if you’re heading out for a day in the sun please protect your head as well as the rest of you.

It’s Natural

Being bald is natural, it’s attractive, and it’s increasingly common. If you’re a bald man, walk tall and know you’re not alone. As my buddy Frank says, “being bald is being.” It’s your natural state, and the feeling of not covering up, not using fiber sprays to mask your spot, or gel to create a cover-up has to be a liberating kind of feeling.

Afrobella was the natural hair blogger at AOL’s Black Voices and a writer for Vogue Italia’s Vogue Black website. She has also presented keynotes at several major media expos and seminars.
