It has indeed been a spring of renewal for the late, legendary trumpeter Miles Davis. First he was the subject of Don Cheadle’s biopic Miles Ahead. Now the jazz icon’s visionary music is reimagined on Everything’s Beautiful, which was released yesterday in commemoration of what would have been Davis’ 90th birthday on May 26.
Produced by Grammy-winning keyboardist Robert Glasper—who will also bring his Robert Glasper Experiment to the ESSENCE Festival, June 30-July 3 in New Orleans—the album fuses Davis’ original recordings with fresh interpretations by artists like Stevie Wonder (“Right on Brotha”), Ledisi (“I’m Leaving You”), Bilal (“Ghetto Walkin'”) and Hiatus Kaiyote (“Little Church”).
It all plays like a dream jam session across time and realms.
