#WEW: Meet the Small Biz Lady, Melinda Emerson Before She Speaks at Empower U

Melinda Emerson was named Forbes #1 Most Influential Woman for Entrepreneurs, has been featured in various magazines including ESSENCE, and works tirelessly to ensure that small business owners are successful in keeping their businesses afloat.  All these reasons and many more is why we invited the business powerhouse, known as the “SmallBizLady,” to speak during the ESSENCE Fest Empower U session.  

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Emerson set out on a mission to become a successful businesswoman.  Years later, she’s been able to use and share the lessons she learned along the way on national television and with successful media outlets, online.  

As a social media and small business guru, the #SmallBizChat host is constantly updating her over 290 thousand followers on the latest events in business news on her Twitter.  In fact, her following grew to be so big and so responsive, she wrote a book to put all of her tips in one place called, “Become Your Own Boss in 12 Months.” 

In between writing and speaking to the thousands who live by her expertise, Emerson spends her time working as the president (and founder) of her award-winning marketing consulting firm, The Quintessence Group.  Her clientele includes American Express, Dell, Staples, Verizon and many more Fortune 500 companies.  

And in between all of this, she finds the time to be an amazing mother to her son.
