For the first time in the 11-year history of 365Black Awards, McDonald’s called on black communities across the country to nominate this year’s Community Choice Youth Award recipients. Community members were asked to nominate amazing teenagers who were making a difference within their communities “through vision, compassion and diligence.” Two finalists, one male and female, were chosen to be honored alongside celebrities and philanthropists at this year’s star-studded event, and each went home with a $10,000 scholarship. Meet one of the winners, Gabrielle Jordan Williams, below.
Gabrielle Jordan Williams, 14, has raised the bar for aspiring entrepreneurs of any age. At just nine years old, Williams started a jewelry company. At 11, she became a best-selling author at Amazon and a professional inspirational speaker. Williams is the owner of Jewelz of Jordan, a booming jewelry business featuring modern pieces made of gemstones and precious metals, representative of her desire to help women and girls develop a sense of ageless beauty.
But with all of Williams’ success, nothing brings her more joy than phlanthropy: She regularly supports national and local charities with her time and money.
“When I reflect back on my life, I want it to be filled with big dreams, big actions and big accomplishments and that’s what I want for others,” reads a quote from Williams’ web site.
