Announced this week, he inaugural ESSENCE Girls United Giving Challenge is a community-wide, 4-day online giving event that will take place on July 4-7 during the 25th anniversary ESSENCE Festival® presented by Coca-Cola.

The Girls United Giving Challenge is inspired by ESSENCE Girls United, an impactful new initiative designed to guide young Black women through a year-long mentorship program, as well as an interactive digital/social content hub that will convey the core principles of leadership and self-love.

ESSENCE Girls United: Here’s How YOU Can Help Empower & Educate Young Black Women During ESSENCE Fest

Every donation made on the essence.civicore.com website will be amplified on this weekend of giving through national and local partners and the greater community for participating organizations. Pre-donations can be scheduled starting today June 19, 2019.

“The ESSENCE Festival has been a party with a purpose from its inception. We are passionate about serving our community of women broadly and deeply, ” ESSENCE Communications CEO Michelle Ebanks said. “Supporting organizations that lift up young girls in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana is an essential part of our brand’s mission.”

The ESSENCE Girls United Giving Challenge includes the following eight 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in the Greater New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas serving young Black women:

  • BR Grow Girls
  • Beautiful Foundation
  • O.M.G. Girlz
  • Orchid Society
  • Pink House
  • Project Butterfly
  • St. Katherine Drexel Prep
  • St. Mary’s Academy

“Educating and empowering our young Black women is at the heart of what ESSENCE is all about,” says New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “Nurturing the next generation of Black female leaders and creators is our highest purpose, even as we celebrate— and the Girls United Giving Challenge is your opportunity to be part of that.”
