While making a bottle of champagne look pretty may seem like an easy job, taking a liquor bottle and turning it into something completely next level isn’t easy. Though, Virgil Abloh is up to the task.
Abloh, founder of the iconic high-end brand Off-White and newly-appointed artistic director for Louis Vuitton menswear, has now teamed up with Moët & Chandon to design two limited-edition bottles of Moët Nectar Impérial Rosé. This is his first liquor collaboration and it’s just in time for New York Fashion Week.

The designer’s recognizable font and typography appear on the bottle with the inscription “do not drop.” We’ve recently seen his use of typography in fashion inscribed on the wardrobe of tennis champion Serena Williams, whom he collaborated with and designed outfits for this year’s US Open.

ESSENCE: What was the thought process when designing the new bottle?
Virgil Abloh: I wanted to treat the bottle as an object — a symbol of aspiration. The design is about being as impactful as possible with minimal impact. As with all my collaborative projects, I tend to work with what I believe is the best in its class. For me, Moët & Chandon is best in its class.
Will we see any crossover from the bottle design in any future collections?
For me there are no set rules in design. Maybe… maybe not.
What is the history of your ‘typography’ being stamped onto your items?
Typography on objects is a larger body of work within my practice as an artist. In short, I love the direct messaging that typography entails, linking to the halo and definition of an object.
The special edition bottles will be available on October 1st — in New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago, and October 15th nationwide.
