Red Carpet Commentary: Celeb Stylist Wouri Vice

This glam guy boasts a resume of clients including Kerry Washington and Elle Varner. Here, Vice gives us his 12 standout looks this season.

By Celia L. Smith · February 25, 2013October 28, 2020

Elle Varner

“I actually styled this look. We wanted to do something that was fun and quirky like Elle’s personality with a touch of glamour and flare, so we went with this puzzle gown,” Vice shares on the Emil Couture gown she wore to the GRAMMY’s this year. “I love the fact that she wore her hair off of her face to really show her decollétage and kept the jewelry simple so the dress would be the main feature.”

Kelly Rowland

“Sheer Elegance. I have enjoyed watching Kelly serve fierceness this award season, her confidence level is all over her wardrobe choices lately. This (Georges Chakra) dress is jaw-dropping and totally made her stand out from everyone at the Grammy Awards. Chic Genius!”

Beyoncé Knowles

“Well tailored, sharp, simple!,” dishes Vice on the Osman jumpsuit Beyonce worked on the GRAMMY carpet. “I loved the fact that Beyonce came red carpet ready but in a simplistic way. We are used to Beyonce wowing us in major gowns and the simplicity was a fresh breath that allowed her to still shine.”

Alicia Keys

“ThIs (Azzedine Alaia) dress is a great take on masculine and feminine. I love the top criss cross which is super sexy but the toughness of the leather makes for a great combo. I do wish the bottom of the dress had less structure because its a slight distraction to the elegance of the top.”

Jennifer Hudson

“Loved her color choice and slim fitting silhouette to accent the placement of the beading on that gown,” explains the stylist on J-Hud’s Roberto Cavalli Couture gown at the Oscars. “It was an unexpected choice for me because I would have loved to see her wear something with volume. But she knows her new body well so this works!”

Zoe Saldana

“Other than wishing for color I thought this (Alexia Mabille Couture) dress was genius! Perfect for her body with enough flare to complement the occasion. She has great style and body knowledge.”

07
Garcelle Beauvais

“She’s on trend with her mermaid fitting dress, and the color brings a touch of youth to this look. I would’ve liked to have seen her in a deeper and richer color but this works for her skin tone so she pulls it off,” says the stylist about the J. Mendel look Beauvais sported at the 44th annual NAACP Image Awards. “A beautiful necklace would have sealed the deal for me, but she is stunning none the less!”

Jill Scott

“I loved this look for this event,” says Vice about Scott’s ESSENCE Black Women in Music gown. “It’s powerful with a touch of femininity. The color is so vibrant that it makes Jill stand out. The design of this dress shows off the curves that she proudly shows off and the jersey fabric drapes in such a beautiful way so everything just flows!”

Jennifer Lopez

“What an elegant dress with uber sex appeal,” says Vice on JLO’s hot Zuhair Murad look at the Golden Globes. ” I love the lace detail and strategic illusion. The hair was a great nod to old Hollywood glamour which made this gown a major win for me!”

11
Kerry Washington

“The simplicity of the silhouette for this (Miu Miu) dress is what makes it stand out from all the rest. I love the bottom half of the dress for the sheer detail,” the stylist explains. “I do wish it were a little more fitted, but it works on Kerry because she knows her body and loves to take a risk. Kudos!”

12
Halle Berry

“I love that Halle does sexy with zero effort,” Vice gushes about her Versace gown. “She makes this dress instead of the other way around. I love that all the cut outs and splits are in all the right places. One of my faves for red carpet season.”
