“The Fashion Show”, premiering today on Bravo at 10 P.M. EST, is hosted by internationally acclaimed designer Isaac Mizrahi (center) and four-time Grammy Award winner Kelly Rowland. Mizrahi and Rowland will also serve as judges alongside fashion luminary and Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion, Fern Mallis (right).
As told to Qianna Smith
This new reality runway series follows 15 professional designers as they compete for a chance to have America choose who will win a $125,000 prize and have their designs sold in the retail market. ESSENCE.com gets the design scoop from Rowland on all things gorgeous and glam.
“The clothes get better, the show gets better. You won’t want to miss it,” says Rowland, who shared the hardest part of being a judge on the show was sending someone home every week.
Wondering how this show is different from “Project Runway”? Each week the designers will be put to the test and will have to face off in two challenges—the Harper’s Bazaar Mini Challenge, judged by the magazine’s Special Projects Director Laura Brown, and the elimination challenge. The clothing designed each week will also be sold to fans exclusively on Bravotv.com. “The work of these designers will speak for itself,” shares Rowland.
A staple on the front rows of runway shows at fashion weeks worldwide, Rowland brings her personal fashion savvy and style IQ to the role of both cohost and judge of “The Fashion Show.” The star goes for bright ruby red colors like here at the Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2009 show during Milan Fashion Week.
It seems Kelly Rowland was destined to be a style diva. The Destiny’s Child founding member has transformed her style from girl-group glamour to solo sophistication.
Kelly has mentioned that one of her favorite designer labels is Dolce & Gabanna.
Rowland likes to keep her looks simple, avoiding otherwise distracting accessories.
The starlet’s fierce fashion sense caught the eye of producers for film version of “Sex and the City”, but Rowland was beat out by Jennifer Hudson for the role of Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant.
Every woman has a fashion role model and Rowland adores the style of actress Sienna Miller. “I really love Sienna Miller; she’s great. Just the fact that she dresses for herself, I think that’s why people love her style so much. She dresses like, ’I don’t even have to try, I’m just that cool!’”
Would you believe that Rowland also admires the style of Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez because “they create their own looks.” Here, the star is pictured with her Destiny’s Child bandmate at her twenty-eight surprise birthday party hosted by Tank & LaLa Vasquez at Opera in Hollywood, California, last February.
The petite R&B star has commented that she never wants to be a size 0, and we salute her for not giving into the pressures of Hollywood to be stick-thin.
There is no question that Rowland knows how to dress up, but she also knows how to balance the glam by dressing down and looking effortlessly casual every once in a while.
Would you guess that this songstress has a super sweet tooth? Rowland has confessed that she loves ice cream, cookies, cakes and pies. We want to know where does she keep it all?
In October 2007 Rowland opted for breast augmentation to fill out her small frame, and in a candid interview with People magazine she confessed that she went from an A-cup to a B.
