Prior to the untimely passing of his mother, model and actress Kim Porter,  Quincy Brown talked to ESSENCE about everything from his starring role on Lee Daniels’ Star on Fox, to his new role on Netflix’s The Holiday Calendar, to his approach to fashion, to his advice to women on upgrading their man’s wardrobe.

Brown’s talent as an actor and musician have lit up a bright path for him in Hollywood, and he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

ESSENCE: WHAT’S YOUR APPROACH TO FASHION?

QUINCY BROWN: “I’m always elegant. I go for looks that naturally mesh with me. I love wintertime. That’s when I can really go outside the box and layer things up, whether it’s a suit or casual look.”

YOUR ADVICE TO WOMEN ON UPGRADING THEIR MAN’S WARDROBE?

BROWN: “Ladies, if you have a man who needs a level up, you can’t just flip a switch. Try having him pick somebody to idolize, a muse, to help bring out that style.”

WHAT’S THE UPDATE ON ‘STAR,’ NETFLIX AND YOUR NEW TUNES?

BROWN: “Season three of ‘Star’ is underway, and my film with Netflix, ‘The Holiday Calendar,’ is out now. There’s also a lot of new music coming soon. I’ve spent the past year recording as much as possible.”
