Catwalk Chronicles: Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell was discovered at the tender age of 15 on the streets of Italy in 1986. By 1990, she was declared a supermodel and later that year was featured in Michael Jackson’s memorable music video In The Closet.

1991

Throughout her career, Campbell became a mainstay on the Versace runway. She also appeared in ad campaigns for the Italian fashion house.

The model has walked in fashion week runway presentations from Italy to India. Here, Campbell strikes a pose during London Fashion Week.

It’s the British beauty’s toned, curvy physique that has made her standout from the rest. Chanel’s Spring/Summer ’94 presentation in Paris showed just that when the supermodel sported a swimsuit on the catwalk.

Campbell was the first black supermodel to ever land the covers of Vogue Paris, Vogue UK, Vogue Nippon, Vogue China as well as Time Magazine.

At the height of her career in the ’90s, Campbell was a part of the top tier of supermodels including Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Scheiffer and Kate Moss.

Early on in her career Campbell began walking for various charitable runway shows. She later founded her own fashion organization Fashion for Relief.
