Spike Lee’s 1988 film She’s Gotta Have It made waves because it was so unique. The protagonist was a polyamorous woman with three boyfriends who refused to answer to anyone about her choices, but back then there weren’t as many labels for sexuality.
Twenty-nine years later, the discussion continues about ownership and body autonomy with the Netflix TV series, but let’s take a trip down memory lane and see what the original actors are up to.
Lee starred as the original Mars Blackmon. Since then, he has been nominated for two Academy Awards, and is currently the executive producer on the updated version of She’s Gotta Have It, and other projects that foster new voices in film.
