Oprah Winfrey Got Emotional Discussing How Much 'Queen Sugar' Means To Her

For two seasons, OWN’s Queen Sugar has delivered an important story of love and family ties through the masterful lens of Ava DuVernay.

As one of the network’s most popular shows, viewers get to see Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner and Kofi Siriboe play siblings learning to love each other in the wake of a major loss. And OWN’s founder, Oprah Winfrey, has never been shy about her love of the series.

On Wednesday to close out its second season, the cast sits down with Winfrey for the Queen Sugar Season Finale Special, Oprah & The Cast, an after-show special with interviews from DuVernay, the ensemble cast and an audience of fans. In this exclusive clip we see the media mogul opening up about why the show means so much to her.

“I feel like it’s this… dream fulfilled and that happened because you [DuVernay] are my friend and we sat on the porch and we put this together,” Winfrey said.

“It’s the kind of show that I envisioned when I actually started this network. I didn’t know it was possible, but you made it so. And you all made it so. So you don’t have a show if the people don’t watch. And I do this tonight to truly say that I honor you and I thank you for supporting this work.”

The Queen Sugar season finale, an extended 90-minute episode written by creator and executive producer Ava DuVernay, will air on Wednesday, November 15 at 9:00p ET/PT on OWN after the show’s season finale.
