Earlier this year, it was announced that singer-actress Jennifer Hudson would play legendary powerhouse Aretha Franklin in an upcoming biopic about Franklin’s life. Now, a teaser for Respect has arrived.
Fans got just a quick glimpse of Hudson as Franklin on Friday when the 44 second clip dropped, with Hudson belting out the late icon’s signature tune “Respect.”
Hudson recently opened up about receiving Franklin’s blessing for the biopic long ago, saying she just hopes to make the late singer “proud.”
Hudson was one of the icon’s personally requested performances for Franklin’s homegoing service in 2018, where she celebrated the singer’s life alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder, Yolanda Adams, and Ariana Grande.
Respect arrives in theaters next year.
