Money Can’t Buy Happiness: Powerball Winner Criticized For Bailing Out Boyfriend Will Appear On ‘Fix My Life’

Money doesn’t solve all problems, North Carolina Powerball winner Marie Holmes learned the hard way.

Holmes, who will appear on the upcoming season of Iyanla Vanzant’s Fix My Life, made headlines last year when she won the $188 million jackpot, most of which has been spent bailing her boyfriend—Lamar “Hot Sauce” McDow—out of jail. McDow pled guilty to drug charges and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Amid the criticism, however, the lottery winner started the Marie Holmes Foundation, which recently sponsored a back-to-school drive that provided backpacks and school supplies to 300 local children. And last year, she donated $680,000 to the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

But despite hitting the jackpot and giving back to her community, Holmes’ life still isn’t quite perfect. The mother of four is one of eight women Vanzant invited to move into a “House of Healing” to dispel the myth of the angry black woman in an emotional four-part saga.

In the trailer, Vanzant tells the women, “I would never hurt you, never compromise your dignity, and when it gets hard I won’t leave you, but I’m going to push you because I’m fighting for your life.”

The show premieres September 10 on OWN.
