Teyana Taylor Directs Beautiful 70s-Set Video For “Issues/Hold On”
Getting Out Our Dreams, Inc./Def Jam Recordings

The weekend is here and it’s brought with it a few songs we obsessed over this week.

Tierra Whack continued to flex her skills with a new weekly release. TDE’s new signee, Zacari, dropped his debut EP, Run Wild Run Free. And Mario reflects on family struggles in his new video for “Care For You.”

Here are five projects we loved this week.

1. Tierra Whack – “Wasteland”

As she continues with her promise of dropping one new single a week, Whack sing-raps over a vibey production as she raps about solitude.

2. Zacari – Run Wild Run Free

TDE’s newest signee has released his debut EP, Run Wild Run Free. Zacari made waves after working with Kendrick Lamar on his hit “LOVE.” Now, he’s looking to blaze a path of his own.

The artist said he found a lot of inspiration in Alaska. “This EP really goes back been working on the music for two years and some of the lyrics are even from high school,” he explained. “This being my first project, I wanted my experiences up to this point to be reflected in the music. A lot of the sounds and tones are drawn from my experiences in Alaska. I want the project to feel like a breath of fresh air. After you listen to it I want you to feel like you’re ready to go back into the real world.”

3. Mario – “Care For You”

Explore the singer’s family struggles in the new video for “Care For You.” In it, the singer and a younger version of himself reflect on his relationship with his mother as she battled addiction.

The singer has been open about his mother’s battle with addiction, using his platform to help children affected by drugs. Sadly, the singer lost his mother in 2017, remembering her on Instagram with, “Your soul lives forever beside mine! We love you Shawntia Hardaway I love you eternally.”

4. Skylar Steck – Redemption

Skylar Stecker’s new album Redemption sees the 16-yeara-old singer showing off her powerful vocals in a string of honest tracks.

The album features lead single “Redemption,” which garnered the singer tons of attention, and current fave “Fire.”

5. Teyana Taylor – “Issues/Hold On”

Teyana Taylor delivers a beautiful video for one of our favorite tracks, “Issues/Hold On.”

Directed by Taylor, the 70s-set video sees Taylor in a loving, but rocky marriage as she sings about the couple’s vices and struggles. A$AP Rocky plays Taylor’s husband with Lori Harvey, Tyler, The Creator, and A$AP Ferg making appearances.
