The year is coming to a close, which means it’s time to start thinking ahead to 2019. It was a notable year for pop culture and while we’re still reeling from some of 2018’s best moments, we’re excited for the things 2019 has in store — like new and returning TV shows. Next year, we’ll see the return of Game of Thrones and Big Little Lies along with premieres for new shows like Black Monday and The Umbrella Academy. True Detective – Jan. 13
True Detective returns for a third season, this time with Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali taking the lead as a detective working on a case involving two missing children in the Ozarks of Arkansas. Carmen Ejogo also joins the series as a teacher linked to the case and possibly romantically involved with Ali’s character.

Black Monday – Jan. 20
Regina Hall and Don Cheadle star alongside Andrew Rannells in this upcoming dark comedy about the boys club of 1980s Wall Street. Black Monday tackles the worst single day stock market crash in history.

The Umbrella Academy – Feb. 15
Mary J. Blige as an evil time-traveling assassin? Sign us up! The Umbrella Academy, based on the comic book series created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, follows seven of 43 children, who are born to women who showed no signs of pregnancy and are later adopted by billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves. They’re then trained to save the world. However things don’t go as planned. The family disbands, but later come together to solve the mystery surrounding Hargreeves’ death.

David Makes Man – 2019
Written and executive produced by Academy Award-winning Moonlight writer Tarell Alvin McCraney—with Michael B. Jordan and Oprah Winfrey also attached as executive producers—David Makes Man tells the story of a young prodigy looking for a way out of the Florida projects. Phylicia Rashad stars in the series alongside Akili McDowell and Alana Arenas.

Boomerang – 2019
Halle Berry and Lena Waithe will executive produce an upcoming sequel (of sorts) to the hit film Boomerang, which will focus on the children of Marcus and Angela Graham along with Jacqueline Boyer as they try to make names for themselves. The 10-episode series will premiere on BET.

Big Little Lies – 2019
After the first season’s intense ending, we’re excited to see where things go in season two of the HBO hit. Notably, Meryl Streep joins the cast for season two, playing the mother of Alexander Skarsgard’s character Perry Wright.
