The actor responds to how it feels to not be in the sequel of the 1996 film.
The sequel to the 1996 film, Independence Day, will be without one familiar face.
Will Smith shared with Yahoo! Movies his reaction when learning the fate of his character, Captain Steven Hiller, in the upcoming film.
“I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out,” Smith said. “It was terrible when I found out my character died.”
The official site Independence Day: Resurgence, details that Hiller was killed while testing an alien hybrid fighter plane in 2007 by an “unknown malfunction.”
Smith noted that he and the film’s director Roland Emmerich discussed working on the sequel together but Emmerich later told New York Daily News that the A-list actor wouldn’t be involved in the project because he was “too expensive.”
Resurgence brings together some of the original cast including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox who will reprise her role as Hiller’s wife, Jasmine.
Survivor’s Remorse star Jesse T. Usher will portray Hiller’s son, Dylan, who will continue in his father’s footsteps of defending planet Earth from an alien invasion.
Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters June 24.
