Davis snagged the Screen Actors Guild Award yesterday for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.
Dazzling in a snow-white dress, Viola Davis graciously accepted the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role in the hit series How to Get Away with Murder.
She started off her emotional acceptance speech by describing a nightly bedtime routine that she shares with her 4-year-old daughter, Genesis.
“When I tell my daughter stories at night, inevitably a few things happen,” she said. “Number one, I use my imagination. I always start with life, and then I build from there. And the other thing that happens is she always says, ‘Mommy, can you put me in the story? And it starts from the top up.”
She went on to thank Shonda Rhimes, the HTGAWM cast, her hubby, Julius, and her mother. She expressed her gratitude for appreciating what she referred to in her People’s Choice Award acceptance speech as “her classic beauty.”
“[Thank you] for thinking that a sexualized, messy, mysterious woman could be a 49-year-old dark-skinned African-American woman who looks like me,” she said, as she was met with applause. “And thank you to all the people who love me exactly how God made me.”
