Officials will not pursue charges against Nick Gordon for allegedly hitting his girlfriend, Laura Leal.
Gordon was arrested in March in Florida after police were called to his home where they observed that Leal had a slightly swollen bloody lip.
TMZ reports that authorities will not charge Gordon after Leal recanted her original statement, denying that Gordon beat her. Without independent witnesses, prosecutors were unable to pursue charges.
Leal originally alleged that Gordon had struck her in the face several times. Gordon claims she threw a bottle at him, ripped his shirt, and began acting irrationally.
Following Gordon’s arrest, Bobby Brown — father of Gordon’s ex-girlfriend Bobbi Kristina who passed away in 2015 — stated he wanted to help Leal. “Domestic violence killed my daughter,” Brown said. “I do not want any more women to suffer like my daughter did.” Brown, who opened the Bobbi Kristina Brown Serenity House in honor of his late daughter, said that the organization would assist Leal if she needed help.
While prosecutors will charge him for domestic violence, Gordon is expected to be charged with violating a court order to stay away from Leal.
